September 5, 1998 Community Affairs Coordinator KPOI FM 1833 Kalakaua Ave, Suite 500 Honolulu, HI 96826 Aloha: The Oahu Area Public Information Subcommittee for Narcotics Anonymous is requesting the help of your radio station in an effort to reach people with a drug problem who may want to stop using. Narcotics Anonymous, or NA, is a non-profit fellowship of men and women for whom drugs had become a major problem. We are recovering addicts who meet regularly to help each other stay clean. Ours is a program of complete abstinence from all mood or mind-altering drugs. Our fellowship is concerned with the disease of addiction and recovery from that disease. The type and amount of drugs used by the addict are unimportant. What is important is what the addict wants to do about his or her problem and how NA can help them. In order to reach these people, the Oahu Area Service Committee for Narcotics Anonymous operates a telephone "helpline". This service is available for those seeking help with their drug problem and to members of the community seeking more information about our program. This service covers your broadcast area of Honolulu. The telephone number is 734-HELP (734-4357). We want to let the public know of this service. We prepared several ten-second public service announcements that prominently announce our phoneline service telephone number. We have these announcements recorded on professional audiotape that also include a script of the audiotape. Please help us reach the still suffering addict in our community by airing these public service announcements. If you have any questions or concerns about our organization or request, please contact me directly at 831-4028 between the hours of 7:30AM to 3:30 PM, Monday through Friday. Any written correspondence should be addressed to the Oahu ASC Public Information Subcommittee, P.O. Box 89636, Honolulu, HI, 96830-9636. Sincerely, [signed] Erik Rogers Chairperson Public Information Subcommittee Oahu Area Service Committee of Narcotics Anonymous
