PI Contingency Plans

The creation of a contingency plan is one of the first internal projects of a new PI subcommittee. The intent of a contingency plan is to have an established strategy for the PI subcommittee’s response to inquiries from the public, especially those requests received from the media.

It is essential that all members of the area/region know what procedures are to be followed when Narcotics Anonymous is contacted by a print or broadcast news entity. Simply put, a contingency plan sets out the details of how and by who is to respond to public information requests or events.

This plan should also include guidelines for handling those requests that will affect other groups, areas and regions or NA World Services. If a request does affect other service groups in NA, then coordination, cooperation and information sharing are needed in order to facilitate an effective response.

We have several resources on this website concerning contingency planning.  First, we have a contingency plan from the British Columbia Region (Canada). Separately is a supplemental document on how to use the contingency plan.

We have an article written on how to create a PI contingency plan by a past chairperson of the former World Service Conference Public Information Committee.

This is the last page of this series.
